01.12.2008 - New Year’s Goals (2008) - “Konata’s Good job!”
What I wish for after I fulfill each goal and complete every goal.

It’s a new year, and I suppose I’m slightly late to the party by determining my resolutions and goals now, but better late than never, right? There are things to get done and things I need to improve on, so here I am, two weeks into the year and finally ready to write down my goals for 2008. A few are anime-related, which is the purpose of this post. Of course, not all of them are anime-related and more actual lifestyle changes that I will follow (I hope).

So let’s get the anime-related ones out of the way, shall we?

Anime/Manga-related Goals for 2008:

1. Watch 100 anime series

01.12.2008 - New Year’s Goals (2008) - MyAnimeList
Seriously, why count them as separate? I don’t want to see Love Hina 4 times on here.

I’ve hit 34 two days ago upon finishing Minami-ke, and I’m pretty excited to know that I’m approaching 50 series watched total. Of course, this is based upon MyAnimeList, and the 34 separates OVAs, movies, and specials (so the Death Note Director’s Cut special is counted separately from the main series). I will be using this method as well for my 100 series count.

2. Increase my manga collection

01.12.2008 - New Year’s Goals (2008) - Manga Collection
I would give my hands for something like this.

My manga library is currently at 8 books, with each being one volume each except the Azumanga Daioh book, which contains all 4 volumes of the series. Specifically, I’d like to increase it to a minimum of 50, which is likely very easy to achieve. Perhaps the key day for this will be Day 4 of Anime Expo 2008. $1 manga copies? Yes, please.

3. Start an anime collection

01.12.2008 - New Year’s Goals (2008) - Anime Collection
… What if that shelf breaks?

I have no anime boxsets or DVDs at all, and that really saddens me. I’m worried that the Haruhi Limited Edition boxsets will be discontinued, and I want to purchase them soon, but I need to save up for my Anime Expo spending. Hopefully in the latter half of 2008, I will be able to regularly purchase DVDs, perhaps a whole series boxset once a month.

Those are all pretty realistic, no? Sigh, at this point a year ago, I had never completed an anime series before and only owned one volume of manga. Now I’m at 34 after starting around May. But now it’s time to list my other goals for 2008.

Other/Personal Goals for 2008:

1. Learn Japanese

I’ve taken Japanese for two years, but I have not learned enough (thanks to laziness and unwillingness) to maintain a proper conversation. I’ve forgotten much of the little Japanese I knewin the past seven months, so this year I hope to regain all that knowledge and learn some more. I’d love to watch raws and not have to wait for a group to sub every episode.

01.12.2008 - New Year’s Goals (2008) - Japanese textbook
Hmm… I wish my textbook was in actual color.

Of course, it is difficult to actually measure this; I have not figured out how I will specify this goal and determine that I have learned Japanese. So specifically, I will finish my Japanese textbook from freshman and sophomore years (so that I cover all the material accurately and easily) and complete the Japanese courses at Mango Languages.

2. Earn straight A’s at school

I can’t afford to mess up now, so I’m really hoping to push myself so that I obtain straight A’s this semester, during the summer, and the fall semester of senior year. I’m naturally lazy, but I’m determined to try my hardest when the second semester rolls around.

3. Maintain my donations for my Compassion child

At the Foursquare NextGen Summit, I picked a Compassion International child. Through the program, I would pay $32 monthly so that this child can get extra money for food, school supplies, and whatever else she needs. My girl’s name is Diana and she is from El Salvador. I really hope that I can continue paying for this support for not only this year, but for years to come until she is a healthy and educated adult.

Those are all I have thought of… no doubt I will make new goals throughout the year, but those 3 are my other goals that I will make a commitment to.

Hmm, I have a bad habit of concluding my posts rather poorly, but I don’t have much more to say. If you’d like, write a comment containing your goals for 2008.

Oh, the reason I did not list resolutions is here. I think it makes a lot more sense to create goals rather than resolutions.

You’ve heard this a million times by now… but let’s all have a great 2008, yeah?
