With the exception of crappy animu such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, I don’t really remember the quality of any licensed dubs I have heard on television. I did initially watch Samurai Champloo in English, and it was absolutely wonderful to the terrible 4Kids crap on Cartoon Network. FLCL is another example of dubbing done right. I wondered, why can’t all dubs be like this? Voice actors that actually matched the characters; is it a dream?

If only she could speak English perfectly…
My Azumanga Daioh download had a few errors in it which forced me to listen to the English dub for a couple of episodes. I wanted to gouge out my eyes (which is odd since I don’t listen with my eyes) because of the complete failure of every voice actress (Jessica Boone you suck at little girl voices; ruined Chiyo-chan, you bitch).
I fucking LOVE Kanon. Last year I heard the Kanon DVDs were to be released in early 2008… now, I’ve only heard the trailer’s dubbing, but I don’t think ADV would’ve changed anything in the actual DVDs.
Why must you make me cry? Nayuki’s voice actress totally messed up her first line in the dub, “I need to pick up some things… for dinner.” What’s with the pause between “things” and “for?” And the voices are just wrong… I think they have different tones from their Japanese counterparts. Ayu also lost her cute voice in the transition =(And WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THE TERRIBLE FORCED UGUU? Perhaps it’s just the fact that I’m too comfortable with the Japanese voices, especially since I’ve already watched the series. But I prefer the Japanese original over the dub EVERY SINGLE TIME, so I think it’s a matter of how much licensed dubs suck. Of course, I bet all of you realized this years ago.
Fansubs FTW?
Apparently not.
