Minimum Tempo

This kid is epic win.

Shuffle! is a pretty decent blend of fan service, drama, romance, and comedy. Each of the girls are likable and bring their own unique qualities to the table (as every harem should be like). I can’t say I’ve exactly loved every bit of it, especially with my large hate of the demons and their ears. However, with episode 13 and 14, it’s finally gotten interesting with Primula’s illness and possible death.

The show features a great deal of comedy that is mostly associated with the incredible amount of fan service (borderline or above Love Hina status). Although it’s mildly funny at times, the humor is getting kind of old, and I’m glad the series took a serious turn around episode 12 because the fan service (especially episode 11) was tiresome.

Although I’m not sure of the H-game, the anime focuses primarily on the five girls Kaede, Primula, Asa, Lisianthus, and Nerine. This is also the first harem where I do not prefer any of the main female leads, even though this statement may not be worth much since I’ve only watched a few harems. In fact, I hate the majority of the main cast (this being Kaede, Asa, Nerine, and RIN). Each of them has a character quality that irritates me except Primula.

Kaede is basically Rin’s bitch. I don’t understand why feeling her amount of guilt would lead her to become his SLAVE, cooking every meal for him and cleaning the house while Rin doesn’t do anything. Regardless of what you did in the past, there is no reason for you to be someone’s bitch that’s willing to do whatever he or she wants. But on the other hand, maybe Rin is even stupider for not taking advantage of her willingness to fulfill his every need >_>

Why can’t you cook for me? Why him?

Sia is a moron. I can’t put it any other way. I’m sure many people have gone through the same… “ordeal” as Sia went through on their date in episode 8, but I was ready to tear her head off because of it. She whines way too often and seems too selfish. I hope she disappears soon.

Nerine. Her ears. Her cooking fails. HER EARS. I HATE HER EARS.

MUST I SAY MORE?

Asa just pisses me off because she doesn’t fully play for Rin. She’s obviously the best girl in the show (except Mayumi; delicious flat chest FTW), so I don’t see why she doesn’t hurry and pursue him before one of these failures win his heart. Luckily for me, I heard she does end up with Rin at the end of the show.Primula is essentially Shuffle!’s loli, and I love her for it. DFC FTW.

Now if there’s anyone I detest in Shuffle! more than Nerine (and her dad), it’s Rin. This failure completely fails to tap any of the girls so far, failing at living up to the greatness that Makoto Itou set in School Days (no, don’t correct me on how that premiered years after Shuffle!). How do you have five, no, possibly 8 girls hovering around you but you don’t get with any of them? Granted, it would ruin friendships if Rin DID tap any of the girls in the anime, but it makes for so much more exciting drama. Like a scenario out of School Days, Nerine could have murder Rin after Sia scores with him. There was so much epic potential considering the supernatural aspects of the characters.

So far, the show seems like a 6/10, but it has the potential to increase its score. Hopefully it does.
