01.26.2008 - Clannad 15 - 1

We learned some more about the mysterious girl and the robot; the robot says that he was originally from a different world. The girl asks about his former world; “Was it more beautiful than here?” “Where there lots of things that kept each day interesting?” which the robot nods to. It also thinks that it chose this world because the girl was lonely. The robot takes her hand when she asks if it wished to be in this world.

Back in the regular world, Kyou, Kotomi, Ryou, and Sunohara decide to lend their names to Nagisa so that Theatre Club can be established. They seek an adviser: Koumura-sensei, the same guy that discussed the wedding with Tomoya and Nagisa. Unfortunately, it turns out that violin girl (no, not Kotomi) and her friends want Koumura-sensei so they can begin the Choir Club. Meanwhile, Sunohara’s imouto gives a call to say that she is going to visit; Tomoya takes the call instead but she doesn’t notice that it isn’t Sunohara that she’s talking to. She says she intends to visit in two days.

Back to the Theatre Club: Nagisa receives a threatening note after P.E. saying that she must not start the Theatre Club. Sunohara does some digging and discovers that Nishina Rie’s (violin girl) friend, Sagisaka, left the note due to a personal issue. Sagisaka explains that Nishina was formerly a talented violinist until an accident crippled her ability to play. Since Nishina can sing, Sagisaka and their friend wishes to start a Choir Club for Nishina. Nagisa understands and concedes to Sagisaka. Sunohara goes batshit insane and says that Nagisa shouldn’t give up her dreams for other people. Tomoya later explains that Sunohara went through some sort of similar club experience for the soccer team.

Tomoya questions Nagisa’s decision, and Nagisa says that it’s alright because she gets to spend time with her friends. Just as they are getting intimate (OK not really, he’s comforting her because she’s crying), Kyou interrupts them, similarly outraged at Nagisa’s decision. Later, Tomoya and Sunohara head to the reference room with that one coffee-giving-book-reading girl named Miyazawa Yukine. She reads Sunohara’s fortune and Sunohara’s gets some “brilliant” idea and bursts out of the room.

Tomoya rescues Tomoyo from the Judo captains attempting to recruit her. Tomoyo asks for his help, and it’s exactly what he does. Tomoyo is grateful (WE NEED MOAR TOMOYO). The next day, Sunohara badgers Tomoya constantly about playing the basketball team (this is related to the fortune that Miyazawa gave), so Tomoya finally runs with Nagisa after school to escape the endless requests. Using his typical humor, Tomoya tells Nagisa that he’s distancing himself from Sunohara because Sunohara loves Tomoya in a homosexual manner. Nagisa is stunned and stops Sunohara when he arrives, saying that Tomoya is her boyfriend so that Sunohara would stop hitting on Tomoya. Stunned, Sunohara runs off in tears. Nagisa hurriedly explains her excuse, but Tomoya thanks her. Their intimate moment is once again interrupted, this time by this cute loli: Sunohara’s sister.

This episode led to a few opinions and discoveries.

1. Nagisa cries way too much.
She seems too emotionally weak and cries at the slightest sad moment. It really struck me in this episode, and I was ready to bash the screen because of her tactic to obtain Tomoya’s kindness and love >_>

2. Nagisa and Tomoya aren’t meant to be.
It’s clearly obvious in this episode, with two moments interrupted by Kyou and Mei (Sunohara’s sister). I think these two cockblockers are trying to say that Tomoya should rightfully be with Tomoyo. RIGHT?

3. Sunohara has feelings.
Umm… yeah. His display of anger and frustration during the confrontation with Sagisaka really touched me. Who knew Sunohara had real emotions besides lust? Oh wait, maybe you can scratch this one out because he did go to the wedding and stuff… But this whole scene seemed out of character. Come on, KyoAni, you can do better.

4. Tomoyo needs more screentime.
Why is the best girl of Clannad being neglected? We need more character development of Tomoyo, no exceptions.

The episode seemed like a mix of different arcs, or not in an arc at all. I guess KyoAni is attempting to push Nagisa’s arc before moving into a new one, but Tomoyo’s sudden reappearance in the story makes it feel cramped since Kyou was shown much more frequently in the past two arcs. Three girls in nine more episodes (Clannad is scheduled for 24, right?)? Good luck.

Fuko’s reappearance? I thought it was hilarious, but other people don’t think so >_> bah, whatever.
