Random, cute Yutaka pic for you.

The anime blogosphere is full of similar blogs that cover the same topics as another, and very few specialize and bring something completely unique to the table. Of course, similar blogs are not a bad thing: they provide a different viewpoint and sometimes reveal details we may have missed or introduce ideas that we may have never conceived. But since there are so many in existence, a person might say, why should I even bother starting an anime blog when it may just be a carbon copy of another? Random Curiosity and Subculture have episode reviews absolutely covered. There are blogs like Epic Win that do provide a special, oftentimes entertaining opinion of the episode, but usually these blogs are saying the same things in a different fashion. For good writing in general, there are blogs such as Hop Step Jump! and The End of the World. So what exactly can I do to stand out?

I don’t want loli-pop blog to simply feature repeated content that has appeared on some other blog long ago, but that’s probably what it will end up being. I planned to write several impressions and reviews on the shows I’m currently watching, but is there a point to that when blogs have previously written about them? Is my opinion really worth displaying to the world? It’s even harder for me (and some others) when I haven’t watched a ton of anime and will miss reference and results of influence in newer anime. I have a very limited scope of the material until I have reached a higher amount.

Perhaps what I like most about anime blogging is the community. I’ve never actually been part of a blogging community, and I don’t doubt that there are other communities such as this, but I really like this one in particular. Everyone (that I’ve come across) is friendly and willing to joke around, aspects I don’t see in many online communities nowadays (I dunno, maybe flame wars and such have happened since I’m relatively new). There is always some scandal or a few trolls lurking around, wreaking havoc or starting arguments for no reason.

So what exactly is the purpose of this post? To be honest, I don’t know. It’s simply an evaluation of what I’ll be writing about and what possibilities the future has in store. In the past two months, I’ve written mostly about anime I’ve been watching with little commentary about each show. I’ve had a few other posts as well, such as the Cloverfield review, Brawl updates, and my wishlist for games in 2008. Although I am definitely not the most creative person around, I’ll try to bring some more creativity and uniqueness with some deeper insight into anime of the 90s (since that’s mostly what I’ll be watching anyway). Once this winter season is over, I’ll probably begin regular episode reviews as well (Haruhi if it premiers this spring, but Code Geass Season 2 for sure). I have a few different bi-monthly features planned too.

Haven’t even started watching this. But Rin is so CUTE.

Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t want people consciously avoiding my blog or refusing to read it BECAUSE it could be a revisiting of old content. I mean, Fate/stay night ended in June 2006. Other blogs have definitely covered it, so why should you read my impressions or review of it?

Only when I started writing this post did I remember the purpose of this blog: a personal avenue for me to express my feelings and opinions regarding anime, manga, J-pop, video games, loli, and whatever else that comes to mind. I don’t have to give a damn about anyone else’s blog and what content he or she has in his or hers, or even the opinions of the readers. Do I want readers? Of course. It allows for greater conversation and an exchange of ideas and thoughts. But I don’t want to simply use them as a reason for blogging. So I hope 2008 will be a good year, full of writing, watching anime, and interacting with the community. I already plan to buy a domain and some hosting soon, so don’t be surprised to see this blog point to a new place soon.

But for now, a temporary hiatus as I try to get my educational life all settled in and organized. Heck, the hiatus might be only a day. Whatever.
