She’s awfully cute.

Currently, Shakugan no Shana II is airing and people are going crazy over its return to action, something I wouldn’t know about since I haven’t even watched the first season. Well, I’ve started watching it and I have to say this is another one of those anime in which the lead male completely irritates me to the point when I want to launch my monitor out of my window in hopes that it will land on Osama bin Laden in hopes that he has a bomb attached to him and both will explode upon impact, but that’s obviously not going to happen so why bother further wishing for it?

Shakugan no Shana (from what I’ve seen so far which is only three episodes) is about some life-sucking beasts working for a well-dressed and probably gay man that are opposed and against Flame Hazes. When a person gets “eaten” by a beast, these Flame Hazes replace their souls with “Torches” so that the balance of the world isn’t broken. These “Torches” eventually run out, which means those people will disappear from the world. The Torches serve to ease the process of people’s disappearances, so people eventually forget about the person. So our story focuses on Sakai, a high school kid who is eaten by a beast but saved by a Flame Haze that he later names Shana.

Shana is a loli, and a hawt one at that. In her fighting form, she has red hair and red eyes and wields a sword to defeat her enemies. She has an annoying pendant thingy named Alastor? that gives her advice or something. When she’s in her normal form, she has normal, black hair with regular, brown eyes. Regardless of which form she’s in, she’s hawt.

So this Sakai kid experiences one of these attacks, but it seems that it wasn’t the first time. This other girl he knows also gets pwned, and he notices that people are forgetting her and she is very weak and uninterested. Sakai tries to help her and have other people notice her, but he phails in his task and realizes that there’s nothing that he can really do about it (this girl was hawt too). Typical crap from an anime. ZOMG I MUST HELPS HER. I FEEL SO BAD THAT OTHER PEOPLE AREN’T NOTICING HER. Well, anyway, Sakai is special because his flame doesn’t ever seem to run out. At the end of episode 3, Shana and Alastor notice that his flame replenished when it was about to run out. This is probably because he’s a Mistes, something I have no clue about.

Stupid fat baby.

It’s been pretty entertaining so far, but Sakai is just one of those characters that tend to annoy me, so I may have a hard time with this. Then again, I made it through Fate/stay night with Emiya Shirou, so Shakugan no Shana should be no problem. The main thing that bugs me is the introduction of terms without fully explaining them. Perhaps it’s done on purpose to add to the confusion or mystery or whatnot, but it’s really pissing me off because I want to know what they are discussing. I suppose they will detail these terms in later episodes.

This better be the greatest thing I’ve ever tasted, considering how it’s been shoved down my throat in all three episodes I’ve watched so far.

What is my general impression of Shakugan no Shana so far? SHANA! That’s about it. I can’t really form a full opinion on this yet. Oh, and I can’t wait to try melon-pan. I hear it doesn’t taste like melon… sounds like fail.
