Really? Come on, bloggers, really? Does Owen’s blatant flaming and ridiculous banning of CJ Blackwing really warrant so much attention?
For those of you that don’t read other anime blogs (yes, that one person) and are unaware of the current situation, CJ Blackwing of Borderline Hikikomori was recently booted off of the Anime Blogging Collective, a private group of bloggers that aim to foster “community, discussion, and traffic on issues we deem pertinent enough to warrant our time on.” In theory, the group is a wonderful idea that promotes rich and thoughtful discussion and posts for the benefit of the anime blogging community. This past Valentine’s Day, the ABC members presented some great content for the rest of us to digest.
Now back to the issue: Owen’s removal of CJ Blackwing from the ABC was rather… poorly thought out. Apparently, simply for not watching Clannad and true tears, CJ Blackwing was banned by Owen, the writer of Cruel Angel Theses and presumably the head of the ABC. Owen sent CJ a reply which has been interpreted to be “ridiculously sexist.”
The rest of the anime blogging community has been sounding off about the whole ABC debacle by labeling the group as a bunch of elitist jerks, although DS of Daijoubu has shown that many members are apparently leaving the group.
Well, did this situation REALLY need that much attention? Joining the ABC was a completely voluntary move; there was no reason to ever join it at all! Leaving it is quite simple; you simply leave the Google Group and you are fucking done. You have no more ties with that group of snobs anymore. Or rather, Owen, who everyone has made out to be a douchebag.
Frankly, this whole situation is ridiculous. CJ Blackwing should’ve settled this matter privately; it’s like all of you are unwilling to solve the matter without public support. Do you need a group of people behind you to settle such a pointless matter like this? And if you are unable to continue your ABC membership, who the fuck cares? Will your removal from the ABC really affect your blog posts? No, it fucking won’t. It’s not like the ABC was the fucking government and was somehow forcing you to write certain posts. Also, Kaioshin Sama of When Anime Past Meets Present has seemed to realize that he can choose to ignore other people! And that’s something you others can damn well realize.
Unless this whole controversy somehow affects your blog in a relevant manner (SEO or ads), who the fuck cares? Everyone has his or her own opinion, and if Owen is sexist, then let him be sexist! Just opt to stay out of the collective and there’s no need to go on! Despite the fact that I’m attacking some of you right now, I will say that assaulting Owen and the ABC with your words do not make you any better than him. It puts you at the same level when you things such as “Avoid this monster at all costs.“
As for Owen, you pulled some stupid moves here as well. There was no need to ban CJ Blackwing for such a stupid reason; everyone has different tastes. Not liking something is called having an opinion, which is something most blogs (yours included) have. And I damn refuse to sit through twelve hours of something that I do not want to watch; so if I hated Clannad, I wouldn’t want to watch it for eight more fucking hours! That’s like saying any of us bloggers are closed-minded because we have not seen every anime to have ever existed. Your comment referring to female anime bloggers was also unnecessary; sex is not an issue here.
So tell me, why does this thing matter so much? Why couldn’t you all have left if you did not agree with the leadership?
EDIT (04/01 12:24AM PDT): I hate the Anime Blogging Collective. LET THIS BE KNOWN.
Well, maybe not that much. They totally got me, I have to admit.

Well said dude. Well said. Thanks for writing this post which pretty much explains what 95% of us bloggers think.
Also your blog looks wicked with The Unstandard theme. :D!
Perhaps, you wouldn’t mind telling us how you really feel.
Alright, look:
First of all, I made this issue public because I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t being hazed or pranked. I was new to the ABC, after all, and I’d heard that Owen had a oh-so-slight reputation for being cruel.
Second of all, I wanted to be part of the ABC. I know it’s not the government/god/Catholic church, but I felt a little disconnected from my fellow bloggers and wanted an excuse to get to know them better. I am a fairly socially inept person IRL, so I guess it’s safe to say I joined the ABC to correct my self-percieved weaknesses.
I don’t want to just ignore other people like Kaioshin. I’m a girl, and girls are social beings. :) Even if I’m quiet and antisocial IRL, I want to have friends with similar interests. And having an aquaintence say something horrible to me is something I don’t take lightly. What Owen said was wrong, and while it may not have been nessecary to make it public, I felt like there had to be a ‘truth behind the truth’ of some sort. I felt inclined to attempt to search it out, so I did.
IMO, backstabbers should be punished. ‘Nuff said. You’re entitled to your opinion, and you can most certainly stay out of this whole mess. I’m tempted to encourage you to; at this point, the situation is ugly, and if you don’t have anything helpful to say then you might as well stay away.
Icystorm! You are the weakest link!
Geez… April starts earlier and earlier.
I agreed with this post until:
ABC IS THE GOVERNMENT!
lol i dont care about all this dorama.
@mellow_bunny: Thanks :D
@j.valdez: Erm, I’m not sure what you mean. I think this whole drama is ridiculous and the whole thing never should have went public. There’s also the whole issue of it being linked to the Anime Blog Awards for NO reason other than Owen’s involvement in both. I’m basically annoyed that posts about this have been appearing in my RSS aggregator when it’s actually no issue at all. There are tons of other idiots on the Internet, and people worse than Owen that are fully willing to admit that they hate women or find them lower than males.
@CJ: I didn’t really mean to offend you, although this post certainly made it seem that way. As for making it public, you could have asked other members; judging by the fact that you were in the ABC, I assume you knew the other members you were talking to? By discussing it with them, this could have been a completely internal affair without bringing this for open discussion among the community.
I can accept that you wanted to be part of the ABC. That is no big deal. I have a problem with complaining about something that was voluntary and did not require you to be in it. It’s Owen’s group, so let him do what he damn pleases. To be honest, you have no ground here because it is a private group that Owen has created which means he can do what he wants! I don’t believe it was ever intended to really be a democracy.
Punished? I don’t believe a few anime blogs crying foul of him will deter him from anime blogging or cause him to cry at night.
@Teeif: Uhh… what?
@Kabitzin: I wouldn’t want Owen as a dictator D:
@korosora: Update your damn blog, man. I DEMAND YOU.
lol Icy… you’ve been had! xD
/me hugs XD
Ouchies … I read your blog earlier and was tempted to post something, but did not. I am SO glad I didn’t, xD
No worries, if you hadn’t fallen for this, it wouldn’t have been a good April Fool’s joke, right? n.n;;
@icystorm: I’d just joined the ABC, so I didn’t have email addresses and such. Perfect excuse, ne? NOT LIEK IT MATTERS ANYMORE THOUGH.
OVER9000 prank is OVER9000.
What done is done, though some people would still be pissed about it. Oh well, what to do…
@Nagato: Yeah, I tried to join the ABC right as this started, and Owen told me to wait until after March. Now I know why.
@CJ: I did try to email you my reply to your comment… but no email addresses on your blog… ANYWHERE.
@lanie-emon: lol I’m not really mad about it; it was all fun.
ABC is still the government though =D.
In more ways than one, too! :D And what Kabitzin said.
LoL. Sorry Icy, I thought you were in on the joke but had given it away! XD
Looking through the links It’s had to tell who was in on it and who wasn’t. April’s Blogger’s Conspiracy it was indeed!
Hahaha, this makes April 1st jokes worth existing!
Don’t feel stupid, laugh with the rest XD
LOL RICKROLLED.
*gives Icystorm a big hug*
