Welcome to the first post of Aya Love (lame name, but better than something like “Aya Rabu Rabu,” right?!), a weekly feature on Minimum Tempo that will report the latest news about Hirano Aya, discuss her music and voice acting, and rave about how cute and awesome she is. Why am I doing this? Well other than the obvious fact that I love her and wish to express my feelings… actually I don’t know. Suppose it’s a way to talk about Aya with visitors and defend her from foolish, pretentious bastards that insult my princess.
I read this post, which linked to this post, an item I had read two months ago. Immediately I recalled the great rage I felt when I had first read the post. I adore Aya, and I can’t understand why how anyone can hate her. She’s so damn adorable and cute, that even when her voice is fake it’s irresistible. She doesn’t come off as arrogant nor conceited. She’s appreciative of her fans - shouldn’t all celebrities be like that?
So she might not talk normally in her interviews and public appearances, and she may sound terrible live, but why does it matter when we’ll mostly listen to her voice in anime after it has been edited and improved? Hell, most seiyuus and singers are like this, even the non-Japanese ones. Most of you like Hatsune Miku and her music, but she isn’t even a real person. So what are all of you complaining about?
I would be alright with this hate for Hirano Aya if she acted like a total whore in public (according to LK, Aya isn’t cute at all; this is an opinion backed by many of real life friends =/), but Aya doesn’t do that shit. Love her. Love her.
Ignoring the first link of this post, can anyone give me a serious list of reasons that explain why you hate Aya so much?
Weak and rushed post, I know. I just wanted this out the door - really shows how much I care about quality >_> I’m hoping this develops into something worth reading, but at this point, you’ll just get some eye candy and repetition. I dream of a world populated by people that cherish Aya together. Next week will be a post about her music, so it’ll be better. I hope.
Oh, and if you can suggest a better name, please do.

so ronery?
You’re stealing Hashihime’s gig.
I wouldn’t say I dislke Hirano Aya, but I am baffled by the adoration she receives in some quarters.
She’s a terrible TERRIBLE singer.
She’s hot and is a great VA though.
Hirano Aya is definitely overrated. Just because she’s the voice actress of Haruhi she’s being that appreciated. Though you have to consider that Haruhi as character gathers all the sympathy and not the voice actress. Before Haruhi no one knew about Hirano Aya, well that’s no wonder with her mediocre skills. It’s a wonder how she got the job at SHnY. Then again no one expected that SHnY would be such a big hit so it kind of worked in her favor.
It’s quite sad how people can compare her with Kawasumi Ayako or Megumi Hayashibara.
I never gave it a ton of thought one way or another. She’s not my favorite, but she’s doing a great job in 20 Faces.
You say she’s not a whore and then you link that image and what do you expect us to think? Cock goes where, etc. And look at those atrocious fingernails. She’s not cute, she’s a slutcrate, and she is the cancer that crippled /jasonmiao/ and made him susceptible to WinD’s propaganda.
@Nagato: wtf?
@Kaioshin Sama: We can all love her together. Except she’s my waifu in the end.
@IKnight: There are people obsessed with the most random celebrities and objects and trends. What’s new here? A lot of people may find her cute or that her voice work is spot-on for the roles she plays.
@korosora: LOL yeah, her singing sucks, but I still like her music. I don’t think of her as singing live…
@Suzuran: Would that be a reason to hate her and not the companies that hire her or the fans that exaggerate her ability or talent? I believe you should criticize the fans that compare her to Kawasumi Ayako, not her. Of course, she’ll accept the roles if she can; she’s not going to say, “No, I suck, there are so many people better than me” and simply let the role go to another. If she has bragged about her ability or compared herself to another, I am not aware of such statements.
@Otou-san: I agree, I almost prefer her voice acting in Nijuu no Mensou Musume over her voice acting in other roles.
@lolikitsune: Umm, I don’t expect you to think she’s a whore. Many celebrities have photoshoots like this (OMG ALICIA SILVERSTONE WAS NUDE IN HER PETA PSA, SHE MUST BE A WHORE), and I don’t believe it’s a problem. Simply because they use sex appeal to sell their media or merchandise does not mean they are whores. And… what’s wrong with her crippling /jasonmiao/? Isn’t that a good thing? I don’t know who WinD is…
Crippling Jason Miao is NEVER a good thing. He was halfway decent before Spring 2006, and now he’s … well, derailed.
And yes, using sex appeal = being a whore.
Ever heard of “dictionary definitions” ?
AND WHY IS SHE WEARING CLOTHES IN THE SHOWER

Cheers to you. Aya Hirano love.
@LK: The American Heritage Dictionary defines a whore as:
1. A prostitute.
2. A person considered sexually promiscuous.
3. A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.
She’s definitely not the first, and we don’t know about the second but I assume no. As for the third, that’s a matter of opinion. I wouldn’t consider using sex appeal being a whore; do we see her posing near nude or making very provocative poses? That being said, there’s nothing wrong with using sex appeal. I don’t believe taking photos like that means that she’s compromised her principles.
As for why she’s in the shower with clothes… I don’t have a clue.
@Os: =D =D =D
She definitely is the first. Think about it, if you can.
@LK: Going by dictionary definitions, Merriam-Webster defines a prostitute as “a person (as a writer or painter) who deliberately debases his or her talents (as for money).” Now how exactly, as an artist, does she lower the quality of her talents?
Unless you are referring to her using her sex appeal to sell? Which would make no sense, because a prostitute means that the person in question would have sexual intercourse to obtain money.
Be more clear instead of leaving your comments confusing and vague.
The only thing that caught my attention was the few lines regarding Hatsune Miku. I totally agree on that part.
And who is this Hirano Aya? I only know Haruhi and Konata.
@lk- not a big surprise there that you are doing this. However, She is nowhere near whore status. That would put her in the same status, as for example, Brittney Spears. And I refuse to put her at that level.
At any rate, keep up the Aya love, icystorm.
Judge and judge away! Stone anyone not in a head-to-toe shawl! Mmm, I love hateorade on a hot summer day.
People hate Aya because she is popular. When someone/something is popular, you have to be especially vocal in order to make an impression. And who doesn’t enjoy the attention of being contrarian?
BTW, how in the world did Jason get in this discussion?
If I’m around, Jason gets into EVERYTHING.
Since when were any seiyuu “good singers”?
That picture is totally “wtf” since I saw a vid on youtube of her voicing in a studio and she was not looking so slutty.
I’ll stand by my own convictions: I like Haruhi, I like Konata, I like “Bouken Deshou Deshou” (Unless it’s not really sung by her, that is).
I started liking Aya Hirano when she was doing voice over work for Anezaki Mamori from Eyeshield 21 and this continued all the way till Haruhi, and after that for some reason, the love faded away on its own.
She started as an idol in the first place; you can’t blame her for wanting the spotlight so much and all the publicity she gets.
I can only see her as an entertainer, as opposed to a flat out seiyuu. I do commend her for her strong acting performances, but it’s hard to compare her with other seiyuu (Kuwashima Houko, Kawasumi Ayako, etc) when they come from such different backgrounds. I think people hate her so much is because she isn’t the conventional seiyuu and is stepping outside the seiyuu walls to advance in the entertainment industry. You can say that to some, she is a “sell out”, but the hard fact is that this whole industry revolves around “selling out”.
If people wanted to be “labor of love” seiyuu enthusiasts, take a look at the doujin seiyuu world. They are probably appreciated as much as professional seiyuu with otaku tendencies (like, say KitaEri or Maita).
IMO, if she keeps on the path that she’s going, she may be the Koda Kumi of the seiyuu world. Whether that may be a good or bad thing is up in the air….
Why the word ’stealing’? Spread Hiranoism. Love or Hate, Aya Hirano FTW. :D
@Lelangir: You insult Noe and now Aya? What the hell is this shit?
@Shin: You should love her again. Go watch Nijuu Mensou no Musume and Zettai Karen Children.
@Mei: I wish I knew even half the people you just mentioned. Sadly, I don’t know any of them.
@RIPstan: YEAH, AYA FTW
I don’t hate her. She really does have talent, especially as impulsive, high-spirited girls who go against society’s constraints and don’t care what people think of them; a nice counterpoint to the whole moe trend.
That said, I also think she’s a bit overexposed, and I wish she would focus more on being a seiyuu than an idol. It’s really a pity that VA’s are paid so low, though. :(
