I hope I ain't bumping this. But I think most likely why 'otakus' hate her is because she is 'slutty' compared to other popular seiyuus, such as Yui Horie or Yukarin. Her style is more on the main stream and non-innocent. And we all know 'most' otaku like innocent stuff. (Remember that infamous T-shirt that said 'did you cum twice,' ;P). Her singing as everyone pointed out, isn't great, but she's improving.
I haven't seen 20 faces yet, but from what I seen from Aya, her best roles are Reira or Konata. She's a decent seiyuu, but definately not the best seiyuus ever. I don't love or hate Aya.
It's interesting to see Chihara Minori is getting more popular then Aya. Obviously Minori is going the correct route with her style.

I don't hate her. She really does have talent, especially as impulsive, high-spirited girls who go against society's constraints and don't care what people think of them; a nice counterpoint to the whole moe trend.

That said, I also think she's a bit overexposed, and I wish she would focus more on being a seiyuu than an idol. It's really a pity that VA's are paid so low, though. :(

@Lelangir: You insult Noe and now Aya? What the hell is this shit?

@Shin: You should love her again. Go watch Nijuu Mensou no Musume and Zettai Karen Children.

@Mei: I wish I knew even half the people you just mentioned. Sadly, I don't know any of them.

@RIPstan: YEAH, AYA FTW

She started as an idol in the first place; you can't blame her for wanting the spotlight so much and all the publicity she gets.

I can only see her as an entertainer, as opposed to a flat out seiyuu. I do commend her for her strong acting performances, but it's hard to compare her with other seiyuu (Kuwashima Houko, Kawasumi Ayako, etc) when they come from such different backgrounds. I think people hate her so much is because she isn't the conventional seiyuu and is stepping outside the seiyuu walls to advance in the entertainment industry. You can say that to some, she is a "sell out", but the hard fact is that this whole industry revolves around "selling out".

If people wanted to be "labor of love" seiyuu enthusiasts, take a look at the doujin seiyuu world. They are probably appreciated as much as professional seiyuu with otaku tendencies (like, say KitaEri or Maita).

IMO, if she keeps on the path that she's going, she may be the Koda Kumi of the seiyuu world. Whether that may be a good or bad thing is up in the air....

I started liking Aya Hirano when she was doing voice over work for Anezaki Mamori from Eyeshield 21 and this continued all the way till Haruhi, and after that for some reason, the love faded away on its own.

Since when were any seiyuu "good singers"?

That picture is totally "wtf" since I saw a vid on youtube of her voicing in a studio and she was not looking so slutty.

I'll stand by my own convictions: I like Haruhi, I like Konata, I like "Bouken Deshou Deshou" (Unless it's not really sung by her, that is).
