Washing dakimakura?

I have a Haruhi dakimakura (body pillow). It is not a pillow cover but rather includes the pillow itself. There is no way to remove the cover.

Now I have a blood stain (don’t ask) on Haruhi’s face and I wish to try to wash it… but I don’t know the proper way to go about this. I don’t want the colors to somehow fade or anything like that, so how should I properly wash this?

    Wash it with your blood.

  2. C.I. says:

Wash it with distilled nutbladder juice. Shouldn’t be too hard to make with that.

On a more serious note, doesn’t it have washing instructions…?

  3. IcyStorm says:

    @lolikitsune NO.

    @C.I. Unfortunately it doesn’t.

    What this guy said.

I . . . whut? Normally I blast bed linen with the hottest wash available but that’s because it’s white and can take anything. I suppose, whatever kind of soap/powerd/liquid you use, you’re going to want to hand-wash this with nothing hotter than the water you get out of the hot tap in your sink, and maybe not even that hot (depends on the sink, really)?

Have you googled up general advice on removing bloodstains? Can you get your hands on any mild stain removers? Are there dakimakura fansites which might dispense advice?

    Try dry-cleaning?

  7. Baka-Raptor says:

    Turn it upside down.

  8. Oxyclean. The ads are ridiculous, but the stuff really does work.

    Seconded for great justice.

Because you can’t remove the cover, I’d really recommend going to a dry cleaner. I’ve used soaking followed by soap, water, and old-fashioned scrubbing, but it helps if you can remove the cover off. Hydrogen peroxide is very effective but it sometimes fades colors.

If there’s a seam, you might have to cut through it, remove the cover (if possible), clean it, and have your pillow restuffed.

  11. otou-san says:

seconding the oxi-clean. that shit’s like magic and really doesn’t wreck colors the way peroxide probably would.

in other news, I’m thinking of changing the name of my site based on the fact that I have no bloodstained dakimakura and thus probably don’t require much shame.

I laughed out loud. Also I hear you can hire ninjas to do our laundry.

  13. IcyStorm says:

I may actually use Oxiclean. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try a dry cleaner.

  14. Kabitzin says:

How much was it? Dry cleaning can be expensive, just buy a new one =D.

  15. IcyStorm says:

@Kabitzin Only $30. Bought at AX; online retailers sell it for about the same. I may just buy a new one or try the Oxi-clean. Or heck, buy a new one for the sake of it. Having two Haruhis is always good.

  16. Man, blood stains are rough. I got one on my first dakimakura but was able to knock it out with a wet paper towel.

Cum stains are pretty easy to get rid off… just that area remains horribly crusty until you wash it :(

“Oxyclean. The ads are ridiculous, but the stuff really does work.”

Apparently Billy Mays doesn’t do the ads that he does unless the stuff actually works, so yeah.

lk’s response made me laugh though. :P

And I want to ask, but apparently I can’t.

  18. Brickmuppet says:

Try washing it like a futon.
    ….
I’m sure the Japanese wash their futons…umm…..somehow….

OK, try a weak solution of baking soda and water
