Mr. lolikit pointed out that my last blog post was published on October 8. So I suppose it’s time for at least one post in the month of November. I would much rather be lying around, playing Fate/stay night or doing something exciting (but Southern California air keeps me indoors for now), but I suppose I should at least throw something out there. Not that any of you missed me.
The reason for my absence is laziness. I don’t have another excuse.
So I might as well cover what I’ve been watching this fall season, right?
Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka – 6/12
Despite lolikit’s hate for this show (yet why does he continue to watch it?), I absolutely love it. I admit it’s not that great, but it’s still madly enjoyable for someone that hasn’t watched as much anime as most of you (my MAL days count is only at 29.5; compare that to wildarmsheero’s 78.0 days and kur0gan3’s 118.7 days). I haven’t seen the same ol’ type of story over and over again, so for me, it’s pretty good. Typical eroge-adapation items like Minato’s ability to communicate with bears are fairly ridiculous but still enjoyable. Plus, I’m really, really hoping for a Minato end.
Clannad ~After Story~ - 7/24
Exactly as I expected. Enjoyable but I have to say that this format is getting boring and too predictable. It goes something like this: focus on one character, then move onto the next one as if nothing really happened. It is definitely pretty and has its own share of laughs, but I want something fresh; I can’t really blame Kyoto Animation or even the director for this. They have the visual novel to follow, after all. After Story did have the best episode I’ve seen all season, so I won’t complain too much.
ef – a tale of melodies – 6/12
The first season of ef was full of tears and sadness but contained two stories of rabu rabu that I couldn’t help but love. Now the second season rolls around, and it completely surprises me with its dark atmosphere and story. Especially with the latest episode, 06 – flection, melodies introduces touchier topics (raaaaaaaape) than what memories did. lolikit said it best: “everyone in memories was trying to avoid being hurt; everyone in melodies has been hurt” Oh, and please do not watch lolikit’s shitty AMV that was just linked. Thanks.
Kannagi - 6/13
Honestly, I have nothing to say about this show. It’s fun… but it mostly ends there. With the exception of walking Nunnally, I don’t feel any affection or attachment to any character. I don’t see it going anywhere either. I hope the show gives me something to care about in the next seven episodes. Nagi has ugly eyebrows and is stupid, Zange is just plain annoying, and Tsugumi is lame for not trying harder.
Kyou no Go no Ni – 3/13
It’s not Minami-ke, but it’s definitely quirky. Despite the shitty animation character designs that initially turned me off, I grew to like it and the show’s oddities. The characters’ school escapades and scenarios are definitely nothing like my childhood, unfortunately.
One Outs – 2/??
It’s meh. I don’t know if I should continue, but it’s boring.
Skip Beat! – 5/??
The only shoujo shows I’ve watched are Ouran High School Host Club , NANA, and Vampire Knight. All good shows, so it was three for three. Skip Beat! now makes it four for four, because the humor and story hits me spot on; I’m easily amused by Kyoko’s inner monologues and her company president’s faggotry. Amuse me more, Skip Beat!, and I shall reward you with a favorable score on my MAL.
To Aru Majutsu no Index – 6/??
Unfortunately, Index is average. The first couple of episodes looked promising, but episodes three and four were terrible. Everyone is mostly in agreement that there’s too much talking in the show. Tone that down, actually make the next parts of the story interesting, and we’re good to go. Index has solid characters that still haven’t been thoroughly explored (that one Level 5 girl, Komoe, and all those other faggots and bitches in the OP), so the potential is there. JC Staff just has to actually be good at producing anime.
Toradora! – 7/25
FUCK YEAH, TORADORA. BEST SHOW OF THE SEASON SO FAR
<3 MINORIN

THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
Vampire Knight Guilty – 5/13
Too lazy to write more. It’s a decent show. I still <3 Yuuki, but Kaname is a douchebag. Yeah.
Yozakura Quartet – 6/12
Characters look like shit, but it’s a decent show to watch every week.

Expect another post in December.
EDIT: Edited a sentence in the After Story paragraph to clarify what I mean. Take that into consideration when reading comments, thanks.
EDIT 2: I meant “character designs” instead of “animation” for Kyou no Go no Ni.

>>Exactly as I expected. Enjoyable but I have to say that this format is getting boring and too predictable. Focus on one character, then move on as if nothing really happened.
It gets even more stale if you’ve already seen Air/Kanon. Not only is the structure exactly the same as those two series, but the only good arcs of Clannad copy the arcs in Air and Kanon. The arcs where the writers actually have to get creative suck. Like the latest one.
ok now I actually finished reading the post
>>It’s not Minami-ke, but it’s definitely quirky. Despite the shitty animation that turned me off at first, I grew to like it and the show’s oddities. The characters’ school escapades and scenarios are definitely nothing like my childhood, unfortunately.
The animation is actually pretty good, it’s just the character designs are weird. Have you ever seen the OVA? It’s better. More porny.
>>To Aru Majutsu no Index – 6/??
Whoever directs this show (actually the guy has a good resume) is so bad with exposition. He’s even worse than Yoshiyuki Tomino. Never mind that the plot thus far has been extremely dumb and could have been over and done with in half the time.
>>Characters look like shit, but it’s a decent show to watch every week.
???
The character designs are the best part of Yozakura Quartet! The writing is so shitty though :(
@wildarmsheero: You’re spot on about Clannad. As for Kyou no Go no Ni, that’s what I meant. My mistake.
I actually like the idea of Index’s plot… but it’s just so poorly written and executed.
And I don’t like the character designs for Yozakura Quartet. Something bugs me about them and Hime’s damn eyes.
It’s interesting to see how people either really like or are indifferent to Kannagi. Interesting stuff.
And I’m surprised at how often the Minorin video has been going around. :3
Kannagi is really easy to be indifferent to.
yeah toradora!
can’t believe you’re still watching VK. i barely finished last season and was gagging when i saw the first episode of S2.
One Outs is the best show of the season. Don’t believe IcyStorm’s lies!
OK I realized that I rarely agree with you, akasaka proves it, but that’s ok. But you’re spot on with Clannad, which is all execution and very little inspiration.
And of course, with toradora. Yes, Ryuuji is great, but as much as I love his character it’s more about agreeing with his taste. MINORIN!
If it wasn’t for Casshern I think Toradora might be my show of the season so far too, not that I’m really qualified to have one as I’m watching so little. Good to see a post from you!
@TheBigN: Well, Kannagi initially captivated me, but it failed to maintain that high level of interest in it. And Minorin is LOVE.
@biankita: Meh, what’s wrong with it? I actually liked the first season (it wasn’t GOOD, but I liked it); same with the second… and it seems more exciting this time around.
@Baka-Raptor: Fuck you.
@otou-san: Yeah, it sucks that your opinions are never correct. And yes, Minorin is LOVE.
@IKnight: Casshern any good? I’ve been hearing “meh” things about it, or was that Tytania?
“Exactly as I expected. Enjoyable but I have to say that this format is getting boring and too predictable. Focus on one character, then move on as if nothing really happened.”
Well, it’s not unusual for Key/KyoAni to do something like this (Air, Kanon). But CLANNAD is different from Air and Kanon. For example, in Kanon, the girls have nothing to do with the other girls’ arc. After one girl’s arc is done, they’re just not important anymore. Whereas in CLANNAD, the girls help out Nagisa even though Tomoya didn’t choose them (Kyou & Tomoyo). That’s what makes CLANNAD stand out in the harem genre, and my praise goes to KyoAni for doing something different with CLANNAD.
And I agree with “everyone in memories was trying to avoid being hurt; everyone in melodies has been hurt”. Read it in your MAL blog post and I thought that maybe that’s why I love Melodies more…
Btw, I can’t believe you haven’t watched Chaos;HEAd…
You fail…lol..jk..
But you should definitely give it a try, ^_^
Hmmm, to me, Kannagi is a lot more enjoyable than Toradora! Guess that makes me retarded or something? But that Minorin video was absolutely epic.
lol@walking nunnally.
