Despite what notdotq’s lolikitsune thinks, I think the show does a superb job of conveying what he perceives as the story’s primary message: hope never dies

You, Jay Appledecks-kun, are a whiny, ungrateful bitch. I’m the one who told you that that was the message of Clannad (and of Kanon and of AIR, but that’s irrelevant right now).

I’ve always considered those Key-based anime the standard to beat. KyoAni conversions are always excellent, although IMO the best would still be AIR. Clannad seems to be the weakest of the three, though I’m not sure if the blame lies on KyoAni’s conversion or Key’s original game content. The reset in this series seems so fake, but then it’s hard to conclude the series without it. You can’t really have it any other way than to break some fourth walls.
